Why are there so many Web Browsers?
Posted by admin in firewall protection on 03 30th, 2009For the last few years it seemed like Web browsers were becoming passe commodities and that we were going to end up with a browser from each operating system company and one indie browser, Firefox. Now, though, seems like there are tons of ‘em. What’s worth checking out and why is there such a resurgence of interest in the Web browser? Continue reading Why are there so many Web Browsers? read comments (6)If I have a firewall on my virus protection, which should I use? Windows or the virus protection?
Posted by admin in firewall protection on 03 29th, 2009I am confused as to which firewall protection is the best. I have windows firewall, however my Virus protection also has one. I know I shouldn't use both. But which one would be best to use? Thanks a bunch in advance!
It depends on which company your firewall is from.
However, every time I have talked to a tech, I have been told to turn off everyone except for windows. There is no renewal fee for windows (free!) Which means that each year when your renewal time comes up you don't have to worry about retraining your firewall when you suddenly realize that the Virus protection program no longer has the firewall in their package or they decide to charge big bucks to renew your firewall. I have been told that Windows firewall works very well. So far I have never had a trouble with my windows firewall. I can't say the same for some of the more exspensive firewalls. Plus you have the added bonus that Windows firewall does not slow your computer down as bad as some of the more expensive firewalls.

Imagine if Twitter became a Google App
Posted by admin in firewall protection on 03 27th, 2009Google has announced that they have made themselves a Twitter account has fuelled some serious speculation that Google just might be lo oking to acquire the microblogging platform. As a PC World article puts it, Is Google going pull a YouTube and swoop in to make a bid for the site’s growing search capabilities? Would a partnership with Google finally give Twitter access to a successful advertising platform and, more importantly, a continued revenue stream that the company has sought since i

if you already put a virus protection on your computer can you put a window firewall protection also?
Posted by admin in firewall protection on 03 26th, 2009if i already put a virus protection on my computer can i also put a window firewall up because it shows red instead of green so what do i do? and if it's safe can i install thank you.
For the tightest security you need these types of programs:
●Firewall - A good third party software firewall is MUCH better than the one in Windows. And that is in addition to the hardware firewall in your router. I suggest Commodo. Get it for free here:
http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/download_firewall.html
During installation choose to install the Firewall ONLY!
●ONE Anti-virus running real-time protection. Two or more AVs running real-time protection will conflict and possibly FREEZE the computer! I suggest Avast! if you don't already have it. Get Avast! Free version here if you would like to try it:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
Just remember to uninstall your existing AV before installing another one.
●At least two Anti-spyware progs. There are many to choose from. I suggest Spybot Search & Destroy in addition to Ad-Aware. Get them from here:
SS&D
http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html
Ad-Aware FREE version
http://www.lavasoft.com/home.php
●A browser OTHER than Internet Explorer. I suggest Firefox. Get Firefox here:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
To make FF even MORE powerful in protecting you get these Add-ons by click on Tools>Add-ons>Get Add-ons>Browse All Add-ons:
WOT
NoScript
Yahoo! Toolbar
In addition to those you can browse and include any other add-on you want and "build your own browser"!
►REMEMBER: All the anti-malware programs in the world are NOT going to protect the computer unless they are UPDATED and used on a regular basis! I do mine every evening just before I shut off my computer.
In addition, using "Best Practices" while using the net will go a LONG way towards helping you protect your computer YOURSELF!
START learning about "Best Practices" here:
http://msmvps.com/blogs/harrywaldron/archive/2008/01/01/best-practices-internet-safety-for-2008.aspx
I hope this helps you learn how to properly protect your computer and yourself from the nefarious things that lurk on the internet. Good Luck!
